HostGator Plans

Lots of hosting companies offer cheap hosting but often, that’s all you get -savings on the price. What you gain in savings, you lose in features, support or reliability.

For example, you might get into a company and pay a small monthly fee, but discover that you’re limited as to how many domain names they’ll host. One company makes customers pay per domain name.

That means if you have five websites, one company will charge you $25 a month. Another costs $10 per domain hosting, so you’d pay $50 a month.

HostGator offers three plans to cover everyone.

The Hatchling plan is the least expnsive and allows you only one domain.  If you plan to have only one domain, then this is the plan for you.  It would be a perfect plan for the fledgling entrepreneur or someone who just wanted to host a family website and keep in touch with loved ones. It’s a great way to host a family blog and share written mementoes, photos and more.

The Baby plan (formerly known as Baby Croc)  is the most commonly selected plan at Hostgator.  With this one, you won’t have to worry about how many domains you want hosted (because it’s unlimited) and you have plenty of space for all of your data.

Even if you don’t want to go with the three-year plan and pay $6.96 a month, you’ll still end up with a great savings at only $7.96 a month. This is the plan that people who want to get into affiliate marketing usually choose to go with until their businesses grow to a point where they feel it’s time to move to the next plan.

The third, and biggest plan is the Business plan. With this HostGator plan, you do get more features. You get the same unlimited space for all of your data – and like the Hatchling and the Baby plan, you get unlimited bandwidth.

The extras you get include SSL and an IP – all at no extra cost to you – plus, you’ll get a toll free number you can use for yourself. As a bonus, you’ll get credit to use for $100 with Google’s AdWords program. Like the other plans, you also get email and Spam Assassin.

While all of the HostGator Plans are great, you want to pick the one that meets your needs. There’s no reason to go with the Business plan if all you need is something that can host a single website – unless of course you know that single website is only the beginning. You always want to look ahead for your potential needs and choose your plan accordingly.

If you fnd the plan you chose is too small, you can upgrade your plan easily.

HostGator is one of the hosting companies that I personally use and have had no issues with the service in the 5 years I have been with them.

Web Hosting

Over the last 6 years I have used several different companies for my web hosting needs.  Some have been better than others at things such as uptime and support.  One of the first vendors I used (a reseller) had the parent company suspend the account.  I could not get an answer from them as to why or how long it might be before we were back up, so I switched to a vendor recommened to me and have had great service from them.

When looking for a web hosting company, there are many factors to consider, some of which are:

What are the Support hours and types of access (online chat, phone, email)

How many Add on Domains you can have?

How much Bandwidth do you have monthly?

What type of Visitor Stats are available and are they available for the sub/add on domains as well?

How may SQL Databases can you have?

How much will this cost per month or year?

I have been with large and small operators and once I had more than 6 site, I used multiple vendors.  If you are planning on more than one or two sites, I suggest you use multiple hosting companies as well. If one should go down, at least your other sites will still be operating so you will not have lost all your income. Start out with the one that looks good for you now, then, as your sites multiply, get a second account with a different vendor.  Depending on how many sites you have,  you may want even more.

Now.  This is not meant to knock small one-person operations but if you are really trying to build an source of income online, I do NOT recommend using one of these vendors.  I had some of my hosting with a small company for several years.  The service was great and I had amost no down time.  Then the owner suddenly passed away and the business ceased operation. All the sites I had on that server went down.  Very luckly, another company agreed to take on any of his clients that wanted to signup with them and I very quickly had my sites up and running again but they were down for the better part of a week.

Most web hosting vendors offer various sized packages to suit a variety of client needs.  You can usually upgrade if you outgow your current package.

I will be adding reviews of the hosting companies I use and getting reviews from customers of some other vendors as soon as I can to help you see some of what is available.
